The best of Estonia
Estonia

The Old Town is mostly distinguished for its unique medieval architecture and unmatched atmosphere of old times that other capitals of the northern European countries have mostly lost. Tallinn, beings one of the most well-preserved cities of the medieval Europe, has virtually unchanged urban fabric of narrow winding streets and land plots that has been developed in from 11th to 15th centuries. Tallinn has preserved, to a remarkable extent, its fortification wall (about 2 kilometres long) and 18 out of 26 of its towers. Thus, the Old Town is a single ensemble with a fortification fort and medieval buildings in northern Gothic style. The Old Town consists of two parts – the upper town (Toompea) and the lower tower with the Town Hall square.
